About

I came to the legal profession having gained extensive occupational experience in several industries including civil construction, hospitality, heavy transport, and military service. From these experiences I have gained a passion for law and in particular, employment law.

My greatest strength is leadership and I commonly refer to myself as the pied piper in reference to the amount of people that follow me when I call a tune. My leadership style is eclectic but it works for me. My goals for the future are to better myself and help others better themselves. That sounds simple but in reality couldn’t be harder.

Other things that interest me are keeping fit, watching rugby and cricket, playing hockey and spending time with my family.

Lexington Legal

Lexington Legal is a Christchurch based law firm, who specialise in employment and immigration law.

Our immigration team works mainly in the areas of work and resident visas, but we do all types of visas including study and business investment category visas. We also do a lot of section 61 appeals, for people who have done their own application, and had it rejected by Immigration NZ. If you need help with any type of visa, please give us a call.

We also do recruitment of both local and foreign workers, who want to work in New Zealand. We can arrange the entire process, from providing a short list of workers for you to interview, to picking them up at the airport and arranging accommodation. How much or little we do is over to the client, which often depends on how much experience the client has had employing workers from overseas.

Our employment law team is headed by the partner of Lexington Legal, Paul Brown, who has worked in employment law for many years. We can offer advice to employers on all employment law matters, from disciplinary proceedings and dismissals, to representation at mediation and beyond. We also can assist with Individual Employment Agreements and Independent Contractor Agreements.

We believe in social justice and have a small team headed by our lawyer, Ruth Burgess, who work pro-bono to represent workers who have been exploited both here in NZ and overseas. See our ‘givealittle’ page for more information.
