3 Questions you need to ask yourself

Karen DegenThink ahead 5 years…..

  1. In five years’ time if nothing changes in your work situation how will you be feeling?

  2. In five years’ time if nothing changes in your relationship situation how will you be feeling?

  3. In five years’ time if nothing changes in your financial situation how will you be feeling?

Take a moment to ponder this before reading on.

If the answer to any of these questions was “not good” and you either don’t know how to change it or can’t seem to do what is required to change it, then you almost certainly need some help.

I asked a client recently the first question above about her work and her reply was “burned out”. Yet she was not taking any steps to change jobs. When I asked why she wasn’t taking any steps to change she came up with a list of reasons why she wouldn’t be able to get another job. They seemed reasonable and rational to her, but they were all based on negative self-beliefs and negative expectations of life and the world. These are what we call ‘limiting beliefs’ or blocks that are holding you back.

To use a metaphor, I like to think of us as having many paths in front of us that we could take in life. The problem is that most of the paths look too hard or impossible to take because they have rocks strewn all over them. So we stay on the path we are on even though it’s not taking us anywhere good. I see my job (as a Happiness, Health and Success Coach) as being a rock-clearer. I clear the rocks (limiting beliefs) off the other paths so you can then choose to take a different path if you wish. Sometimes there are a lot of rocks on our current path and we can clear those also, or find ways of finding the happiness that lies between the rocks. How rocky is your life right now? Don’t let yourself be in the same position in five years’ time, or even in one year’s time.
